| There are usually only 2 racers in speed skating... The more skilled skater has to start behind the person in front to give them a head start... I couldn't find out how many laps they do but i'm pretty sure its a couple. |

| Yes, there is short track speed skating and long track speed skating... |
What equipment is used?

| You wear special speed skates that have a long blade attached to it so you can glide longer, You have to wear skating googles to protect your eyes, You also wear a uniform that looks like a leotard that has a head cap so your hair doesn't get in your face... You also wear hand protectors, knee pads and elbow pads... |

| The fastest person to skate a 400 m lap is Paul Kulizhnikov, he skated it on the 20th of November 2015... Speed skating is in the winter olympics, an this year the winter olympics are being held in Pyeongchang which is in south Korea. |
